How to Achieve Beach Waves on Short Hair
In this video, Madelyn from Tangerine Salon in Dallas, shows you how to achieve a beautiful beach wave style on short hair. This look is perfect for summer months and can be dressed up or down. We have seen this look on the Red Carpet at recent award shows worn by stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Margot Robbie and Dakota Johnson.
Step by Step Tutorial
Step 1 - Pin up the top layer of hair to create sections for easier styling.
Step 2 - Spritz Aveda Thermal Dry Conditioner to protect from the heat of the curling iron.
Step 3 - Spray Aveda Texture Tonic to prep the hair for the beach waves and to create thickness and a beachy texture.
Step 4 - Start in the front by curling away from the face and only give one turn to the pieces of hair on the bottom layer. If you have longer hair, multiple turns may be needed.
Step 5 - As you go around the head, alternate the way you twist the curling iron (away from the face, and then toward the face, and so on).
Step 6 - Spritz Aveda Air Control Light Hold Hairspray to set the curls.
Step 7 - Take down the top section and repeat steps 2 - 6. When you curl the top layer, angle the curling iron and hair up to add volume and wrap the hair a few times around the curling iron to create more of a bend and wave.
Step 8 - Once you finish curling each piece, spritz Air Control to the top layer. Then let the curls set until they are cool.
Step 9 - Mess it all up! Run your fingers through the curls to create a messy beach wave look.
Step 10 - Finish the look with Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hairspray.
