2019 Hair Cut Trends

Blunt Chin Length Bob

If you’re looking for a hairstyle that matches your candid, outspoken personality, then the blunt jawline bob is the trend to try in 2019. Lobs and bobs had their moment in 2018 and decided to stick around for another year.  Thank goodness for us who decided to take the leap and let our stylist chop our locks! The blunt bob is a low maintenance hair style that will help your hair appear fuller since this style allows it to the thickest possible. To get the full effect, this cut is best styled straight but can be tailored to wavy or curly hair textures. To prep this style, start with Aveda Volumizing Tonic and either Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener (for fine to medium hair) or Brilliant Universal Styling Crème (for coarse hair). Bowdry your hair with the nozzle pointing downward, finish with a ceramic flat iron and a spritz Air Control Light Hold Hair Spray.

The Modern Shag

Last year was jam packed with blunt lines and clean cuts, so 2019 is fighting back with a modern take on the 1970’s shag. With a running theme of low maintenance hair styles, the shag is the epidemy of shake, tousle and head out the door. Texture is key to achieving the messy/undone look, so start your style with Aveda Texture Tonic and Thickening Tonic, whip your hair upside down and blast with the blow dryer. For curly textures, prep your hair with Be Curly Curl Enhancer, twist your curls and let your hair airdry. In a hurry? Use the diffuser attachment on your blow dryer.  Once dry, just run your fingers through your curls to break them up a bit and set with Air Control Light Hold Hair Spray.

The Bob with Bangs

The bob haircut is a way of life but it’s time to transform your classic look! 2019 is a year of change (#newyearnewyou), so why not spice up your look with a banging addition. Whether you go for a full wispy fringe or a sleek blunt bang, step outside the face-framing box. If you’re blessed with kinky curls be sure to not go too short. Prep with Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair to instantly repair and protect from heat styling as well as Smooth Infusion Nourishing Styling Crème to keep straight or curly styles smooth all day. However, we do suggest erring on the side of caution with your styling products to avoid weighing down your bangs.

Grown Out Pixie

Kristen Stewart has been rocking the grown out pixie for quite some time now and we’re all finally catching up. This is a highly versatile style that can suit many different hair types and face shapes. Keeping the sides short with long, choppy layers up top long, you need to be able to embrace the mess. This style is made with volume and texture, so the prep involves Aveda Volumizing Tonic and Pure Abundance Style-Prep. Once styled to your preferred level of undone, finish it off with Light Elements Defining Whip. Day two hair can be a hassle with shorter styles, so we suggest keeping Shampure Dry Shampoo close by to freshen up second or even third day hair.

Curtain Bangs

We should go ahead and call 2019 the year of comebacks. With the resurfacing of the shag and the growing desire to curtain bangs, it is almost as if we’ve stepped back into 1975. If you’ve thought about getting bangs, let us suggest this style to you. Curtain bangs are the low maintenance alternative to the classic blunt fringe. As we mentioned before, don’t get too eager and use a heavy hand on the products. Try using a bit of Aveda Pure Abundance Style-Prep to add volume and hold before you go in with your blow dryer. Once you’ve got the perfect swoop and part, set with Air Control Light Hold Hair Spray.
