Mindfulness Techniques: A Life-Transforming Practice
“Mindfulness means moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness. It is cultivated by refining our capacity to pay attention—intentionally—in the present moment, and then sustaining that attention over time as best you can. In the process, we become more in touch with our life as it is unfolding.” — Myla and Jon Kabat-Zinn
Cultivating mindfulness techniques will not only help you become more fully present in whatever task or activity in which you are engaged, it will help relieve the negative effects of accumulated stress in your mind/body physiology and allow you to access and experience more of the inner peace at your core.
Simply put, be where you are! Periodically throughout the day, take a moment to pause, bring your attention to your breath and focus on the rise and fall of your chest as you inhale and exhale. After taking several conscious breaths, expand your attention to include awareness of your body, and take several more conscious breaths. Continue to expand your attention to include awareness of each of your senses and your environment.
Make a conscious effort to perform this powerful practice several times each day for 30 days until it becomes a new habit. It truly can transform every aspect of your life experience.
